How do I back up my Tycho NT.6 database?

The Tycho user interface includes a so-called service frontend. This is different from the user frontend, which is where users usually run/annotate/analyze their measurements.

The service frontend allows one to log into different accounts with different permissions and privileges on Tycho:

  • The ‘Public’ account is the default account and does not need a password. It allows one to run measurements and to change the time zone settings.
  • Some accounts are used for production or calibration of Tycho and not meant to be accessed by the user.
  • The ‘Administrator’ account allows one to do database backups and to download log files:
    • Database backups may be done periodically to make sure all measured data is safe. A database backup is saved on a USB memory drive and can be transferred and restored onto any Tycho system. Please be aware that a database backup, in contrast to exported individual measurements, does not come in an easily accessible file format.
    • Log files may be useful for remote diagnostic purposes by NanoTemper Technologies. The download of log files via the ‘Administrator’ account is available on from Tycho software version 1.1.1 and up.

Please log out again when finished. To do this, press Logout (see Figure 3).

To access the ‘Administrator’ account:

  •  First navigate to the About page (see Figure 1).
  • Then, press Device maintenance to get to the login screen (see Figure 2).
  • Log into the ‘Administrator’ account using the password “stokes”
  • Insert a USB memory drive and wait 5 seconds for the drive to be mounted. Then tap the button for the desired action (see Figure 3). The backup file or log files are then saved onto the USB memory drive. Please wait until Tycho shows a completion message before removing the USB memory drive.

After use of the ‘Administrator’ account, please remember to log out again (see Figure 3).
